Sewell Group employees take to the ropes for charity
A team of nine employees from across Sewell Group took to the ropes to abseil 200ft down Hull’s tallest office building.
The abseil took place last Friday (29th April) off the K2 Building in Hull City Centre, for The Kirkwood, an end-of-life hospice based in Huddersfield who provide specialist care to adults with advanced, progressive illnesses, as well as providing support for their family members, friends, and carers.
This is the first active event under the Group’s efforts to bolster its West Yorkshire construction company’s – Illingworth & Gregory (I&G) – pledge to raise a significant amount of money as part of its 50th year in business.
Helen Lever, Bid Manager for I&G’s sister construction company, Sewell Construction said:
“This year marks a huge milestone for I&G and its great the whole of the Sewell Group can get involved. It’s also five years since I&G joined the group this year, and so what better way to celebrate!
“I’ve really been looking forward to getting involved and making even just a small contribution to the ambitious pledge our colleagues have made over in West Yorkshire.
“It’s important to the whole group to give back to the local communities we operate in, and even though I’m not based at the I&G offices, we all recognise the importance of raising money for a local cause such as The Kirkwood, which many colleagues have had a personal experience with.
“It has been a real team effort to get to this point in fundraising already, and I’m looking forward to meeting many more of my colleagues from across the different business units.”
The abseil is the start of many fundraising activities throughout this year and beyond. Over the next few months, team members from across the group will be taking to the skies, the mud, the kitchen, and the golf course, with events to suit the group’s 500 employees across the region.
I&G is also sponsoring the highly anticipated Snowdogs Support Life, Kirklees art trail, which will see 60 decorated sculptures popping up in public spaces across the borough this Autumn.
I&G is part of the Sewell Estates arm of the Sewell Group, which delivers investments, developments, and facilities management solutions for public and private sector customers.
The Sewell Estates collective of businesses also includes sister construction company Sewell Construction, Sewell Investments, Sewell Facilities Management, Shared Agenda, Parallel, and the most recent investment in Community Ventures Ltd.
More employees will be taking to the skies in the next charitable event, participating in the UK’s highest skydive at Hibaldstow Airfield, Lincolnshire, on Sunday 8th May. If you would like to pledge your support to this event and the greater cause, please visit Crowdfunding for The Kirkwood.
