Additions made to improve staff and patient experience at Rotherham Hospital

I&G have been working with the Rotherham NHS Foundation Trust on multiple improvement and expansion projects across Rotherham Hospital for many years.

Wellbeing has been a focus for the Trust and I&G from the start, and the team have continued their efforts to provide more welcoming internal and external spaces not only for patients, but staff too.

A new fence will be installed to the exterior of the discharge lounge which includes decorative metal butterflies fixed onto the fencing, contemporary style sleeper beds made from timber to line the fencing and space for wildflower and grass planting.

Other works to the hospital have included;

  • An extension to its A&E entrance to create a drop-off point, an internal one-way system, separate consultation rooms and a unique de-contamination unit
  • Ward B6 received a full refurbishment to create several additional high dependency beds, as well as dedicated areas for staff to don their PPE and enter critical care units safely
  • Refurbishment of the discharge lounge creating a nicer space for patients to wait, including the creation of extra bets for patients and reutilising void outdoor space for them to enjoy open space and fresh air before they’re discharged
  • Individual cubicles for patient privacy and covid-secure measures have also been installed in Resus

The team are also currently working on further refurbishment works to Keppel Ward in response to growing patient numbers.
