Meet our people

There would simply be no I&G if it wasn’t for the people. Our ecclectic mixture of personalities make up the most fantastic team of people to work with – many of whom have talents outside of the workplace – from photography to acrobatics! (we’ll let you guess who!)

Meet some of our team members, who really do make the industry a special place to be.

Business Support & Sustainability Co-ordinator
Shirley Zhong
I remember my first day at I&G, I was so excited to be in a company that aligned with my values. I studied Architecture at uni, before embarking on a Master’s in surveying. I started my career at I&G as a Management Trainee, but after getting stuck in different aspects of the business, I took a shining to social value and comms. We needed a sustainability co-ordinator, so here I am!

Outside of work, I’m an avid aerialist. My main apparatuses are Aerial Lyra and Silks, but I love exploring all things circus.
Senior Site Manager and EOT Council Member
Garry Higgins
I've been with I&G since 2003 after moving around lots of companies and working away from home on a wide range of schemes. My career began in Batley as an apprentice joiner at a small, local firm. I wanted to be back local again, so I&G really appealed to me. I'm a member of our Sewell Estates Employee Ownership Trust Council, meaning I can support the needs of my fellow co-owners.

I love visiting the Big Apple when I'm not working, in fact all of America fascinates me. I also enjoy indoor go karting and following my local football team Leeds united.
Office Manager and EOT Council Member
Jane Barrett
I started at I&G in 2017, and can't imagine being anywhere else. It doesn't feel like a job - we're all supportive and keen to help each other out, which is lovely. When I left school, I got an office job working for a local family-owned business, where I stayed for over 30 years! It's obvious that I enjoy working for a company with that real 'family' feel, which I found here at I&G when my previous role ended. Alongside my role, I'm also a member of the Sewell Estates Co-Owner Council which means I am a voice for my fellow co-owners.

In my ‘outside life’ we are currently building a new home so I spend lots of time looking at plans and invoices – just like work really!!
Site Manager
Ben Cusworth
I studied Construction Project Management at Sheffield Hallam before joining I&G as a Graduate Management Trainee. My role started as a mixture of office based and on-site work, which helped me develop a wide range of skills within the industry. I've developed a passion for working on site, which I have developed over the past 4 years through trainee/assistant roles, before undertaking my own schemes as a Site Manager over the past year and half.

Outside of work, I’m a big Man U fan and go to as many games as possible. I also like to go on long walks through the peak district and spend my evenings either watching films or gaming.
QHSE Coordinator
Claire Sleight
I've been at I&G since 2012. My role is varied – from assisting with QHSE sections relating to tenders and live schemes, to weekly payroll! The people here make I&G special. They're a great bunch to work with, extremely supportive and helpful.

Most of my time spent out of work is on long walks with my dog Molly and Husband, Paul. We also love to travel, our favourite place being the magic isle of Ibiza.

A team supported by experienced leadership

Our leadership team have a vast amount of knowledge and experience in all aspects of construction, and they love to get involved in all areas of the business. Spending many years both on and off site has allowed them to gather invaluable knowledge in the industry. Their belief that all projects should be partnerships filters to their team members, which shows in they way we work as part of our clients’ team, rather than just providing a service.

From keeping an ‘eye out’ through the telescope and pretending to be a crab at our Rotherham Hospital Pirates Playground grand opening, to leading development and business growth discussions and leaning on their management exeprience to support and develop team members, Chris and Paul like to make sure they’re getting stuck in to support all things I&G.

Commercial Manager

Martin Carr

I joined I&G as Commercial Manager in 2019. I manage the QS team and all the commercial aspects of the business post contract award. Since starting my career in construction, I’ve worked in the UK and internationally for Principal Building Contractors, on both the commercial and operational side of projects ranging from £10k to $100m in value. The projects have covered a range of sectors which has meant I have experience in most aspects of construction.

Along with spending quality time with my wife and daughter; travel & photography are my passion. I’m getting ever closer to the 30 countries visited mark so I’m always looking out for the next travel opportunity and make sure to have my camera to hand wherever I go.

Operations Manager and EOT Board Member

Paul Russell

I joined I&G in 2021 to manage all of our live contracts and work with our estimating team to submit tenders for new projects. I have a BEng (hons) in Civil & Structural Engineering, and throughout my career, I’ve worked on a range of construction projects across the public and private sector. As a fellow of The Chartered Institute of Building, I’m passionate about supporting the development, conservation, and improvement of the built environment. My favorite part of the role is building strong relationships with clients and my colleagues – which is why I’m also a Board member of the Sewell Estates Employee Ownership Council.

Outside the office, I love to watching my son play football, walking my dog and even strumming a few chords on my guitar.

We would say this, but...
