I&G's Harry named a winner in Top 30 Under 30

I&G’s own Harry Watt has been officially recognised as one of the brightest young things in the region, having been chosen as one of West Yorkshire’s Top 30 Under 30.

Leeds & West Yorkshire Top 30 Under 30 selects 30 of the most talented employees in the region and develops them on a prestigious training programme, designed to equip them with the skills towards leadership pathways and ongoing professional development. The year-long experience culminates in a prestigious awards ceremony at the end of the year.

Site Manager Harry joined Elland-based construction business I&G in 2019, and quickly progressed to a more senior role, and has delivered on some great projects. He’s now moved on to larger schemes, and manages some of our key customer relationships, resulting in fantastic feedback for the business on both delivery and quality. He’s now sharing his skills and knowledge with others, and is a champion for all our cultures and behaviours.

Harry will now begin a journey of self-discovery and improvement through the Top 30 Under 30 LEAP programme, helping him develop and grow. He said:

“It’s been a real honour to be selected for the Top 30 Under 30 programme. I was really surprised when I was told I’d been nominated, and then to be chosen as a winner was amazing. Some of the other winners have achieved amazing things, so I’m really looking forward to meeting them all and learning all I can from the training. It’s such a brilliant opportunity and I’m so lucky to be involved.”

The first of its kind in the region, the scheme aims to recognise and support rising stars within businesses across Leeds and West Yorkshire, inspiring the next generation of business leaders. As part of the programme, each of the selected winners will undergo 12 months of development in line with the Leadership Excellence Acceleration Programme (LEAP). The scheme not only equips each winner with the skillset to become effective leaders, but also provides an opportunity for businesses to recognise and invest in their own aspiring, young talent.

Harry’s father, Darren Watt, also works at I&G, and says he is delighted at his son’s win.

“It’s been so rewarding to see my son follow in my footsteps in the construction industry, and I’m really glad that his efforts have been recognised, not just within the company, but across the whole region,” Darren said. “Everyone at I&G knows how hard Harry works, and we’re all really proud of what he’s achieved. When we found out he’d been chosen for the programme, it felt like we were all winners.”

Harry’s win is just part of a programme of development of our people. After 20 years service, I&G stalwart Paul Dyson has been promoted from Site Manager to Contracts Manager, following his successful management of the construction of a new Intensive Care Unit at Barnsley Hospital. Paul will now be overseeing programming, design management and close customer engagement, as well as being involved across all departments.

And Harry’s father Darren Watt, and colleagues Garry Higgins and Garry Laycock, have all been promoted to the role of Senior Site Manager. With a collective 130 years of construction experience between them, the three managers will be making sure they get the best out of their teams on some really interesting schemes coming up this year, including the creation of a new Community Diagnostic Centre at Seacroft Hospital, a refurbishment of the pharmacy department at St James’ Hospital and other exciting projects that are set to be revealed soon.

The I&G team are eager to see what the new year will bring, as they look forward to working with new clients, expanding their operations in the North East and creating even more valuable health and commercial facilities to benefit the communities we serve. Keep an eye on the I&G website and LinkedIn to keep up to date with what happens next.
