GLEBE HOUSE SURGERY
CLIENT: GLEBE HOUSE SURGERY | TYPE OF WORK: REFURBISHMENT AND RECONFIGURATION
VALUE: £2.1m | DURATION: 18 MONTHS | SECTOR: HEALTH
Creating customised modern spaces to enhance patient care in a primary care and community care setting
Need
Glebe House Surgery delivers both primary care and community services and needed to extend its practice to be able to cope with the rising demand for patient care.
The existing facilities were no longer fit-for-purpose, and so a refurbishment and reconfiguration of the spaces was required, as well as the construction of a new-build extension.
Action
To minimise disruption to staff and patients, and to maintain operations throughout the entirety of the project, I&G had to develop a phased delivery plan.
Phase one:
- New-build extension
- Airy waiting space
- Additional toilet facilities
- Consulting and treatment rooms
- Landscaping
- Additional parking spaces & driveway
Once this phase was completed, the patients and staff from the existing building had to be seamlessly decanted and moved into the new build.
Phase two:
- Reconfiguration of existing building
- Creating customised, modern spaces for community healthcare services provided by several trusts
Impact
The scheme is expected to achieve a BREEAM rating of ‘Very Good’, and materials have been considered to minimise impact on the environment, such as low carbon footprints, recyclability and external fabrics offering a greater thermal performance of the building.
Internally, materials used offer greater acoustic performance and private in-between rooms, floor and wall finishes offer no volatile organic compounds and are low maintenance and durable, meaning the building is fit for the future.
The enhanced, extended, and modernised facilities have enabled Glebe House Surgery to deliver both primary care and community services under one roof, creating an integrated healthcare hub for Bedale residents.
It includes:
- 8 additional consulting rooms
- 3 additional treatment rooms
- Breakout areas and additional office space
