Hull-based Sewell Group is holding a free building compliance event in April to help local companies get to grips with the laws around building safety and compliance.

The full day event, which will take place on Wednesday 23 April, is designed for anyone who is involved in the management of a building or estate and wants to know more about their responsibilities when it comes to compliance.

The day will include sessions on water hygiene, asbestos management, fire safety, legal obligations and compliance considerations, and there will also be the chance to speak one-on-one to experts in building compliance.

Linda Murrell, Sewell Group’s Head of Safety, Environment and Compliance, said they were putting on the event to help demystify a complex subject.

“Building compliance is essential to keep people safe, and yet it’s really difficult to stay on top of all the relevant legislation, best practice and guidance,” she said. “The consequences of your building not being compliant are serious, both for the safety of people using your premises and your company’s reputation. We wanted to run this free event to allow people to upskill themselves on the latest legal changes, and to ask questions to reassure themselves that they’re on the right track with their building maintenance.”

Partner at international law firm DAC Beachcroft, Matthew Breakell, who is speaking at the event, said: “Ensuring the safe construction and management of buildings remains a complex topic. Getting it right not only protects people and property, but also provides organisations with some legal comfort in the event of an incident.”

Sewell Group is a multi-disciplined group of companies, headquartered in Hull, and operating across the country in construction, facilities management, estates consultancy, data mapping and intelligence, and investments.
