Taking vaccines on the road
CLIENT: SHEFFIELD HEALTH AND SOCIAL CARE TRUST | TYPE OF WORK: SOCIAL VALUE | DATE: 2023 | SECTOR: HEALTH
Winter is the time when health trusts turn their minds to their vaccination campaigns, protecting their staff against seasonal viruses. Sheffield Health and Social Care NHS Foundation Trust wanted to make vaccination as easy, convenient, and quick as possible for their staff across the city, so they came to I&G to see if we could help them with a mobile solution – a vaccine van which they could take across their sites, maximising vaccine uptake amongst their staff and tackling barriers to getting protected.
The solution
I&G had worked on several projects for Sheffield Health and Social Care NHS Foundation Trust, including Woodland View Nursing Home and the Michael Carlisle Centre. The Trust approached us to see if we could support their vaccine van project, and we were happy to help. Working in partnership with Brook Miller Mobility Ltd and Northway Vehicle Rentals, we hired a standard Transit van for the Trust, and transformed the interior to include everything the vaccination staff would need.
The challenges
The I&G team kitted out the interior of the van with everything the vaccine team would require, including:
- Retractable awnings.
- Dedicated space for administration of the vaccine, including tables and chairs.
- An area to access and update vaccination records.
- A medical grade refrigeration unit.
- A subframe formation in preparation for the furniture fit out.
- Hygienic ceiling and wall cladding.
- An electrical system installed with battery power for lighting, heating and refrigeration.
The I&G team also designed a livery for the van, creating an eye-catching graphic in the Trust’s branding to promote the vaccine campaign to staff.
The result
The vaccine van is now on the road, touring the Trust’s sites to offer flu and COVID-19 jabs to staff to protect them over the winter.
We wish the Trust and all who benefit from this fantastic facility happy motoring, and thank everyone involved for their valuable contributions in time and donations.
