Creating an inviting place to work

CLIENT: UNIVERSITY OF LEEDS   |   TYPE OF WORK: REFURBISHMENT   |   DATE: 2024   |   SECTOR: EDUCATION

The University of Leeds want to offer the highest quality experience for their students, so they came to I&G to support the refurbishment of Lupton Halls of Residence.

The solution

The I&G team completely refurbished 18 kitchens across two blocks of flats. Work happened over the summer holidays, so students weren’t disrupted during their studies.

Work included:
– 18 new full kitchens
– Building work and plastering
– New flooring, decoration and tiling
– New ventilation system for each kitchen
– New distribution board for each kitchen, including rewire of the kitchens, connections of existing flat wiring into new boards and testing

The challenges

Students were returning for the new academic year in September, so it was vital that work was completed by then to avoid any disruption to their studies.

During the scheme, the project was delayed by two weeks due to other unrelated works happening at the site, but through hard work the I&G team managed to pull back the time so the project completed only three days after the scheduled finish date.

The result

Students were able to move into the halls of residence on the planned date in September, and had brand new kitchen facilities to help them with their transition to university life.

"I consider I&G to be a very professional organisation, and I have no hesitation on working with them on future project."
